We had an amazing trip to the Zoo today. We saw all of our favorite Alaskan Animals and learned a lot! The kids were so excited to be at the Zoo and I am so happy that we all got to experience it. In Science we have been focused on learning about Alaskan Animals so being able to see them was a real treat. The animals were all very active today too so that was great. My personal favorite was getting to see the seals. One seal in particular could not get enough of the kids. It just seamed as if he/she was just as interested in learning about the kids as the kids were learning about it.
We started off the morning by dying eggs. Then we wrote a "How To" paper explain the process of how to dye an egg. It took a while talking through the entire process as a class but we did it. After lunch we graphed egg dying results. Pink was the clear winner!! Then, we started our Egg Drop Challenge. This was the highlight of my day. Each group carefully designed a contraption to protect their egg from a fall. As you can see from our other graph most of our eggs cracked but it was still a lot of fun.
Today we earned our S'more Party! Since our main story for the week was "If You Give a Pig a Pancake" I decided to combine that and our party and make S'more pancakes for the kids. We read and measured out all the ingrediants together then I cooked them as the kids watched from their desks. It was a lot of fun!
What a week of celebration we had 2 birthdays, mine and Dr. Seuss's! We read Dr. Seuss books everyday and did a craft or science activity to go along with each one. Everyone had such a great time! Above are our paper mache balloons to go along with "Oh, The Places You'll Go!". We got tons of compliments on our hallway display. We even won prizes from our librarian!
